Lead Acid Replacement
The following five markets are all served mostly by Lead Acid manufacturers and have significant growth forecasted over the next decade. These are markets where Anzode’s chemistries will perform well against the application’s requirements:

1. Micro Hybrids Automotive Batteries (Stop-Start Variants)
NiZn is currently the best battery solution for Micro-Hybrids in terms of cost, performance, and safety.

2. Automotive Start-Light-Ignition (SLI) Batteries
This market is a natural extension of the Micro-Hybrid market.
3. Various Military Applications
For the defense sector safety, weight, and dependability are critical. The U.S. Military has been researching alternative technologies because “there’s a Navy and a broader military concern with the safety of lithium-ion batteries—on soldiers, on sailors, on platforms,” says Debra Rolison, head of the advanced electrochemical materials section at the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory in Washington, D.C.

4. Marine batteries
NiZn is a lighter and higher power replacement for the Lead Acid batteries primarily used on ships.

5. Aircraft batteries
​NiZn is a safer alternative for Li-Ion batteries for Aeronautical use.

The Patented Technology

Simple paste and electrolyte combination

The paste must be combined with a specific electrolyte chemistry, which is part of the Anzode patented technology. Specialized separators are not required.

Allows for a Flexible Business Model
The paste and electrolyte (proprietary products) can be manufactured in a separate facility or at the battery assembly site. Intellectual Property protection and/or cost structure can thus be optimized.


The technology is easy to deploy
The paste is made of commonly available and inexpensive materials.
The technology is aqueous which makes it compatible with much of today’s installed battery manufacturing base.
All the other components used in Anzode’s Nickel Zinc batteries are industry standard and the manufacturing processes, plant and equipment are all widely used today.
